5G Mobile

5G Mobile

In the vision of a “hyper-connected” 5G network, the next generation radio access promises unprecedented coverage and service availability. Traditional mobile services will be extended to cover a variety of new applications, increasing the performance requirement of the transport network. Faster, more reliable and always connected.
In the description of 5G requirements, we found defining elements that could be transposed to the underlying network and can be used to characterize the transport network, including front hauling, backhauling and metro/regional network.

Highlights / Steps to implement

Higher peak date rate

To offer high capacity services to the final user, high data rate in the back and front haul (X-haul) has to follow. Differently from before the capacity growth expected to enable 5G is of an order of magnitude

Latency

Is a requirement that is getting more and more stringent with the releases of new access technologies. The shorter the latency requirements is (sub-milliseconds) and the most performing the transport network needs to be, to carry traffic across the network. Beside architectural expedients to optimize the topology, transporting data at lower layers is the real improvement. Hence by-passing buffers, queue and egress shaping algorithms.

Coexistence

The deployment of multi-rat technology, Het-Net and different architectural models of backhauling and front hauling will overlap. The different services need to coexist and perform at their best to achieve the expected results.

Our Solution

Convergent Optical Layer

When the capacity grows and latency needs become stringent, the need to transport capacity at the lowest level possible becomes imperative. WDM technology offers the capability to do just that.

Wired and Wireless

Convergence of fiber based and wireless transport becomes a stronger asset than ever for mobile operators who find themselves in the position of accessing a larger tool-box of solutions to homogeneously address the mobile transport network with multi-gigabit transport options regardless of the underlying physical media.

SDN centric solution

The current incumbent-captive solutions are a stopper to the “best of breed” approach that mobile operators want to adopt in order to maintain a flexible and fast evolving network. The introduction of SDN centric solution is a way to lower to a minimum the barriers of new technology introduction.
